I got quite excited seeing that Grimaud has released (via their Dessurre brand) two new English language cartomancy decks: Joséphine’s Divination Playing Cards and The Parisian Sibyl
This is a quick post to say that they are out in the world (though I’m having trouble getting hold of The Parisian Sibyl) and to share some gratitude that they are.
Joséphine’s Divination Playing Cards is, as far as I can tell, a version of “Petit Etteilla” (1800 (circa)) – and one of the instruction cards confirms that:
Staying true to the traditional sense of the cards as a whole, we have taken it upon ourselves to make minor changes in order to modernise their meanings and make the reading of uprights and reversals easier and richer
I love that it’s been refreshed to keep it relevant. My first reading with them was spot on. I look forward to exploring them more.
And again with The Parisian Sibyl, you’re not getting an antique (though it is a reproduction of La Sibylle des Salons), you’re getting a refresh:
a more playful, modern approach, making this edition accessible to the widest possible audience.
I have a copy on order from Amazon in the UK, but it’s not due until Oct at the earliest, so I’ll report back then.
Do you like more cartomancy-focused decks? What do you use? Are you going to try these?
Let me know in the comments.
